What is Modal fabric?

Here at Bocka Bocka, our men’s designer boxers, trunks and boxer-briefs are made using either an ultra-soft polyester blend (our Supernova Collection) or a blend of Modal and cotton (our Midnight Collection).

We’re sure you’ve heard of cotton and polyester before, but what about Modal?

If this is a new one for you, then you're in luck because we're here to give you the lowdown on this particular fabric. After all, when it comes to buying new underwear it's always good to know exactly what you're getting for your money!

Luckily, it’s not complicated - Modal is simply a natural fabric that’s made from cellulose fibres derived from beechwood pulp. And that’s it! The fibres themselves are naturally soft and hang really well. In fact, you’ll quickly find yourself obsessed with the silky-smooth feeling of the material against your skin.

Modal is 50 percent more resistant to shrinkage than cotton and has better shape-retention, so your underwear drawer won’t need restocking any time soon because of washing machine mishaps! It also tends to pill less as a result of its stronger fibres and lower surface friction.

Why, then, do we blend our Modal fabric with a bit of cotton? This is to make the fabric more breathable. This is particularly great if you’re active and always out and about, as the Modal/cotton fabric can help wick away sweat and moisture, so your skin will be able to breathe and you won’t feel overly hot or sticky.

And if you’re one of those men who hates it when the colour fades after a few washes, our Modal/cotton designer boxers, trunks and boxer-briefs are a great choice because this fabric blend holds the dye really well. This means that you’ll find the colours are still vibrant a few months down the line - even after repeated washes.

That all sounds great, right? So what are you waiting for - check out our range of Modal/cotton trunks and boxer briefs now!
